TESTING GENERAL INFORMATION
1.
The Canine
Eye Registration Foundation or C.E.R.F. issues
certificates of eye health and maintains a registry on their website.
Click on the link to verify CERF testing. This testing must
be redone each year to keep the dogs certification current.
Spelling is
very critical and typos on the site do occur so if a dog does not come up
it may be an error. You can look up dogs by full name, partial name,
registration number, or CERF number. If you do not find a dog that
you think should be there check with it's breeder or owner.
You
can also search by kennel name (or partial name) to see the dogs they have
tested and registered.
2. Orthopedic
Foundation for Animals or O.F.A. issues certificates of hip, patella
(knee cap), and thyroid health and keeps a registry on their website. Click
on the link to verify OFA testing.
In the past
the thyroid tests were not very indicative or reliable. Even now Michigan
State (one of the top authorities) says that Greyhounds (so probably IGs
also) can have much lower numbers and still be normal.
3. Von
Willebrand's disease or VWD is a blood clotting disorder. There
is a blood test that measures the amount of VWD factor in the blood and
guidelines for what is normal, unknown, and affected.
4. Our
testing - Many of our dogs, especially the early ones, were tested but
the results were not registered with CERF.
We have always
had our dogs patellas checked but OFA has only recently begun it's certification
program for this.
We are in
the process of collecting text results and posting them to this site, this
will be an ongoing process so if you have questions about a specific individual,
please e-mail us.
